Greer Sullivan, M.D., M.S.P.H. (UCLA CSP 86-88)

Greer Sullivan (MD, University of Mississippi, 1980; MSPH, UCLA, 1991; UCLA RWJ Clinical Scholar 1986-88) is a health services researcher who is an Associate Dean for Population Health and Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine.  As the founding Director of the Center for Healthy Communities she will develop the medical school’s health services research program. She directed the South Central VA Mental Illness Research Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC); a virtual program spanning eight Southern states that aims to improve mental health care in rural areas. She was a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Arkansas, and a Visiting Professor at both Tulane and the University of Mississippi.  She was previously with the RAND Health Program and continues as an adjunct senior scientist at the RAND Corporation. She has conducted research on vulnerable populations with serious mental illness, such as those who are homeless or incarcerated; and has been involved in a series of studies examining innovative approaches to delivering treatment for anxiety disorders in primary care settings. Most recently Dr. Sullivan has led a community-based program in which mental health providers’ partner with rural clergy to encourage more appropriate use of mental health services and is the PI in a PCORI-funded study of mental health needs of rural African-Americans in the Arkansas Delta region. She has a long record of mentoring junior health services researchers.
