Spring 2015

Desmond RunyanOur recent round of Skype calls and site visits to the programs reinforces that the four sites of the RWJF Clinical Scholars are all doing what they are supposed to be doing: preparing scholars as thought leaders, change agents, and investigators in every sense of the word.  Our alumni can rest assured that the legacy of the program will be assured by the continued achievement and excellence of the current Scholars.  The faculty at UCLA, Michigan, Penn and Yale continue to make sure that the program will be “good to the last drop” to quote an old coffee commercial.  In this issue of the newsletter we present the results of our third annual survey of our alumni and current scholars. The four sites all reported on current scholar activities in 2014.  We didn’t have a great response rate with 259 (20.5%) responses among our approximately 1,300 alumni (25.5% (259/1015) if one excludes non-working emails).  The missing responses are probably not missing at random but the folks who did respond had a lot to say and had done a lot.  Summar Corley, our graduate assistant at the National Program Office prepared a word cloud out of the results that you should peruse.  Quality, community, access, and many other themes are represented but health, care, and research pop out at the reader.

2015 Annual NPO Alumni/Scholar Survey

Thank you to all the alums and the four sites who completed this year’s NPO survey.  The RWJF Clinical Scholars National Program Office (NPO) is interested and engaged in the success of scholars and alumni. The NPO collected data from alumni and training sites in March 2015. A total of 259 out of 1,266 (20.5%) alumni responded to the online survey about their activities in 2014.  Please see the link below for the summary of the survey results.

Sneak Preview: RWJF’s Four New Leadership Programs

The Foundation is currently finalizing designs for the four new programs – RWJF Diversity in Health Policy Research, RWJF Interdisciplinary Research Leaders, RWJF Multi-sector Leaders for Health, and RWJF New Clinical Scholars - and in mid-May will release a Call for Proposals, inviting organizations to apply to manage them. The Foundation expects to launch the programs in fall 2016, via Calls for Applications for each program's first cohort. The draft call for proposals is now available.
