Dr. Yelba Castellon-Lopez  is currently pursing a position as Assistant Professor with the Department of Family Medicine at UCLA.  Dr. Castellon-Lopez is interested in fostering community-academic partnerships as a way to engage in community-based research addressing health disparities in low-income communities in Los Angeles.

Dr. Enrico Castillo

Dr. Enrico Castillo has accepted a position as a psychiatrist and mental health services/health policy researcher in a joint position with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health and the UCLA Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences. He will be joining the UCLA Center for Social Medicine and Humanities as a public psychiatrist, mentored by Drs. Philippe Bourgois and Joel Braslow, and will continue collaborations with the UCLA Center for Health Services and Society, mentored by Dr. Kenneth Wells. In this position, he hopes to support public mental health policy- and decision-making processes through research, and advance multi-sector and multidisciplinary services that address complex mental health and social needs, particularly for those with serious mental illness and chronic homelessness. In his future work, through his collaborations with academic and health system mentors, he hopes to combine historical and anthropological approaches with health services and health policy research methodologies to develop innovative solutions to pressing public mental health system challenges.

Dr. Nathan Favini

Dr. Nathan Favini is Director of Primary Care at CareMore Health System, the innovative health plan and delivery network subsidiary of Anthem, Inc. In this role, he leads CareMore's efforts to develop high-value primary care programs across its Medicare Advantage plans and serves as Medical Director of CareMore's first internal primary care site, responsible for the design, creation and evaluation of a well-being-oriented practice for Medicare/MediCal dual-eligible and high-risk members in Downtown Los Angeles. He oversees and performs evidence-based updates to CareMore's renowned chronic disease management programs and leads numerous organization-wide quality improvement efforts, using design thinking and LEAN methodology. He continues to provide primary care to CareMore members.

Nicole has accepted a position with Family Health Network in Cortland, NY.  Family Health Network is rural FQHC collaborative that partners with a Cornell University and SUNY Upstate in a practice-based research network. The clinic also participates in New York state Medicaid pilot projects. She will be working clinically as a primary care physician and will also be working with the Seven Valleys Health Coalition and other community partners to develop initiatives that aim to improve population health.

Kymberly will complete the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars program at the University of Pennsylvania in June, 2016. She will continue her research and work in public health as a Pediatric Policy Advisor for the City of Philadelphia Department of Public Heath Division of Maternal, Child, and Family Health. She will continue to provide pediatric care at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Dina will complete a third year of research fellowship as a VA Special Fellow at the University of Michigan.  She will use this time to complete several ongoing projects, including a pilot randomized controlled trial to test a mobile health approach to prevent type 2 diabetes.  She looks forward to a career as a physician-investigator.

Brian Hurley, M.D.

Brian Hurley, MD, MBA, DFASAM originated the role of Medical Director for Substance Use Related Care Integration at the Los Angeles County Health Agency in March 2017. In this role, he leads the adoption of evidence based practices for substance use related treatment, specifically including screening and brief intervention for substance use disorders, medications for addiction treatment, focused psychotherapy, and naloxone distribution to at-risk patients served by the Los Angeles County's directly operated ambulatory care programs and community mental health programs. A key component of this role is implementing California's Drug MediCal Organized Delivery System benefit within Los Angeles County's Department of Health Services and Department of Mental Health. He maintains clinical activities as a member of the medical staff in the LA County Men's Central Jail.

Andrew Ibrahim, M.D.

Andrew will complete the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars program at the University of Michigan in June, 2016 and go on to complete his training in general surgery at the University of Michigan. Afterwards he plans to pursue a career in academic surgery where he can continue working amongst surgeons, architects and policies makers to implement population strategies that improve delivery of surgical care.

Michael Knight

Michael has accepted a position as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the George Washington University in Washington, DC. He will also serve as the Patient Safety Officer for General Internal Medicine for the George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates. In this role, he will oversee the reporting and analysis of medical errors and adverse events, and the development of responsive programs to build a culture of safety within the division. He will continue to practice clinically in Internal Medicine with a focus in obesity medicine in the GW Weight Management Clinic and General Internal Medicine Practice.

Gauri Kolhatkar, MD, MPH, MS, will be completing her analysis of linked state administrative records examining child welfare involvement among California children referred to early intervention services, as a research fellow at the Children’s Data Network at the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work. She wishes to serve the safety-net of Los Angeles county, focusing on clinical, population health and quality improvement initiatives aimed at child maltreatment prevention.

Dr. Joseph Rojas

Dr. Joseph Rojas is currently negotiating a position with the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services for a combined clinical and system transformation role. He is interested in serving justice-involved youth and their families and establishing a multidisciplinary reentry/aftercare clinic for youth exiting juvenile halls and camps. In the interim, he will be continuing his clinical duties at the Olive View-UCLA Medical Center Hub/SCAN Clinic, which serves child welfare-involved families in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles.

He will be joining Christiana Care Health System in Delaware as an Academic Internal Medicine Hospitalist.  He plans to continue his work around the intersection of the opioid epidemic and Hepatitis C and involvement in advocacy efforts through work with the Clinician Action Network.
