Current Scholar Awards and Accomplishments

Efrain Talamantes (UCLA CSP VA 12-14) and Gerardo Moreno (UCLA 08-10) served on a Q&A physician panel at the 2nd Annual Medicos Para El Pueblo (MEDPEP) Pre-Health Conference hosted by Dr. David Hayes-Bautista at UCLA on September 8, 2012. The panel focused on addressing the Latino physician shortage.

Efrain Talamantes (UCLA CSP VA 12-14) was selected for the 2013- 2014 Latino Physicians Advisory Committee for the Los Angeles County Medical Association. He will be working on addressing various priority issues: physician shortage, career and practice support, and leadership development.

Capt. David A. Lane (Yale CSP 94-96) took command of the Naval Hospital at Camp Lejeune, NC on June 8, 2012. Read an interview conducted by the RWJF Alumni Network about his transition and his appeal to RWJF alums with experience in post traumatic stress. Information about the naval hospital is available at their website. Also read a recent article from the US Army's official website about Capt. Lane's work in the Philippines.

Katherine Neuhausen (UCLA) and alumni Mitchell Katz (UCSF CSP 89-91) wrote an op-ed piece in the Archives of Internal Medicine written warns of the danger of reducing funding to the Medicaid and Medicare Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) programs and how it would negatively impact Safety Net Hospitals.

Recent graduate Stephen Patrick (Michigan CSP 10-12 VA Scholar) published an article in Health Affairs demonstrating how the number of insured children significantly increased after the federal government provided matching funds to Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
